The State of Michigan recently announced that they are implementing some additional security measures related to this year’s individual tax refunds. The State will be selecting some returns to confirm the taxpayers’ identity. If your return is selected, you will receive a letter in the mail from the Treasury. It will direct you to go online and answer various questions to confirm your identity. Once your identity is confirmed, your refund will be processed. It is also possible that some taxpayers may be asked to submit paperwork to confirm their identity. After filing your Michigan return, you can check the status of your refund by going to: www.michigan.gov/wheresmyrefund.
If you receive any correspondence from the State that you are concerned about, please give me a call!
